Ausgehend von der Fragestellung der Beschreibung des Verhltnisses zwischen den Heiligen und den Herrschern untersuche ich die Konzeption Gregors von Tours. Im Hintergrund steht dabei immer die Rolle Gregors von Tours, als Bischof von Tours und damit seine enge Verbundenheit zu der Gruppe" der Geistlichen. Herrscht in der Beschreibung dieser beider Gruppen eine Schwarz WeiMalerei" vor, bei der die Bischfe, bte, etc. durchweg nur positiv beschrieben werden und die Knige, Kaiser, Herzge, etc. nur die negativen Charaktereigenschaften zugeschrieben bekommen oder ist die Beschreibung doch differenzierter? Nach Johann Wilhelm Loebell1 bildeten die Geistlichen zur Zeit Gregors von Tours den geistlich und sittlich hervorragendsten Teil der Bevlkerung; einzelne unerfreuliche Taten fielen dann auch nicht auf die Institution Kirche, sondern auf einzelne Personen zurck. Ist dies zutreffend? Wie sind in der Konzeption Gregors von Tours die einzelnen Geschehnisse und Charakteristiken von Herrschern und Heiligen in den verschiedenen Kapiteln des 6. Buches miteinander verwoben? Welche Absicht verfolgt Gregor von Tours mit dieser Art der historiographischen Konzeption? Anhand von einigen ausgewhlten Kapiteln gehe ich dieser Fragestellung nach.
