In den vier Kapiteln soll geklrt werden, was das Baskenland von den anderen autonomen Regionen Spaniens unterscheidet, welcher historischer und politischer Hintergrund das Baskenland sowie seine Sprache aufweist, welche Konflikte die baskische Sprache hervorruft und welche Besonderheiten das Baskische in der Sprachstruktur hat. Um einen berblick ber das Baskenland zu bekommen, beschftigt sich das erste Kapitel mit allgemeinen Informationen und Zahlen ber das spanische sowie auch das franzsische Baskenland, obwohl diese Arbeit ihren Schwerpunkt auf das spanische Baskenland legt. Es werden Informationen ber die geografische Lage, die Sprachverbreitung und ein kurzer historischer Abriss gegeben. Das Kapitel soll sich auch mit den verschiedenen Theorien des Ursprungs der baskischen Sprache auseinandersetzten. Das zweite Kapitel konzentriert sich auf die Sprachsituation. Es wird auf die politische Gesetzgebung des Landes und der Region eingegangen. Anschlieend wird die Verwendung der baskischen Sprache in den Schulen, an der Universitt, in den Medien und in der Verwaltung geklrt. Das Interesse des dritten Kapitels liegt in der historischen Entwicklung der ETA, ihrer Ziele und Aktivitten. Das letzte Kapitel befasst sich ausschlielich mit der baskischen Sprachstruktur und veranschaulicht anhand von Beispielen die linguistischen Besonderheiten und Phnomene. Hier soll auch auf das baskische Pidgin eingegangen werden. Abschlieend befasst sich die Arbeit mit der historischen Entwicklung der baskischen Sprachforschung.
