Das Fachgebiet Anasthesiologie ist jetzt 30 Jahre alt geworden. Seit seiner Grlindung im Jahre 1953 hat es eine gewaltige Entwicklung durchlaufen. Aus den ersten "Narkosespezialisten", von denen die Laien, aber auch viele A.rzte nichts oder nur Unzureichendes wu ten, hat sich ein Netz einer umfassenden Anasthesieversorgung ent wickelt, das weitaus mehr umfa t als nur die "Spezialitat Narkose". Der Berufsverband Deutscher Anasthesisten hat im Mai 1983 in Berlin aus diesem Anla seine Jahrestagung unter das Thema "Das Berufsbild des Anasthesisten" gestellt. Auf dieser Tagung wurde ver sucht, den gegenwartigen Standort des Fachgebiets in der klinischen Anasthesie, in der Intensivmedizin und der Notfallmedizin, aber auch in der Niederlassung und in der Schmerztherapie zu bestim men und Perspektiven ftir seine weitere Entwicklung aufzuzeigen. Der vorliegende Band enthalt die Vortrage dieser Tagung. Allen Referenten, die sich fUr diese Aufgabe zur Verfiigung ge stellt und sie mit groi1er innerer Beteiligung erflillt haben, sei an die ser Stelle noch einmal herzlich gedankt. Mein besonderer Dank gilt Herrn Prof. J. B. Brlickner und Frau A. Mahlitz, Berlin, flir die Orga nisation dieser Tagung wie auch fUr die Bearbeitung der Vortrags manuskripte. Auch dem SpringerVerlag sei ftir die schnelle und sorgfaltige Ausfiihrung und Gestaltung dieses Buches gedankt.
