Das Ergebnis seines Schreibens ist ein uerst komplexes Konstrukt, das jenseits von festgelegten Gattungsgrenzen in Form von Erzhlung, Bericht, Essay und dialogischen Sequenzen versucht, sich dem Phnomen Tod aus mglichst vielfltigen und unterschiedlichen Perspektiven zu nhern. Angesprochen werden auf diese Weise die medizinische und die soziale Ebene genauso wie die psychologische und die philosophische. Ein Element jedoch bleibt durch das gesamte Werk hindurch konstant: die Fokussierung auf Dieter und Walter Wellershoff. Das Verhltnis zwischen den beiden Brdern bildet das Zentrum von Blick auf einen fernen Berg', und alles, was geschrieben wird, mu in Relation dazu gesetzt werden. In seinem tiefsten Kern ist dieses Buch fr Wellershoff vor allen Dingen eines: eine Verarbeitung der schon immer hchst wechselvollen Beziehung zum jngeren Bruder, eine Bilanz, die er exakt ein Jahr nach dessen Tod zu ziehen beginnt. Von jeher gilt das Verhltnis zwischen Brdern als ein besonderes. Das ist auch im vorliegenden Fall nicht anders. Das Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es daher, den Charakter des Bruderverhltnisses herauszuarbeiten und insbesondere die Funktionen zu untersuchen, die dem Tod darin zukommen. Es wird zu fragen sein, inwieweit er die bestehende Rollenverteilung besttigt, beziehungsweise neue Rollen zuweist, und welche Auswirkungen er auf das Selbstverstndnis der beiden Brder in Relation zum jeweils anderen hat.
