Bildbeschreibung ist keine natrlich gegebene Fhigkeit, sondern ein komplexer Prozess, der bis zur Kunstfertigkeit gesteigert werden kann. Dabei ist die Bildbe schreibung kein Selbstzweck, sondern ein Schritt auf dem Weg zur Bildinterpretation. Der Kunsthistoriker und Begrnder der Ikonologie, Erwin Panofsky (18921968), widmete bereits 1932 einen vielbeachteten und noch immer aktuellen Aufsatz dem Problem der Beschreibung und Inhaltsdeutung von Werken der bildenden Kunst' (Mller, 2003: S. 33) Folgt man der Auffassung Marion Mllers1 und sieht in der Bildbeschreibung einen komplexen Prozess, gar eine Kunstfertigkeit, so wird deutlich, warum es im Kontext der Bildforschung und Kunstgeschichte einen methodologisch intendierten Diskurs gibt. Nimmt man sich dieser Logik an (vgl. Zitat Mller) und geht davon aus, dass nicht nur das Bild selbst in einem knstlerischen Prozess geschaffen wurde, sondern auch die Interpretation des selbigen einem hnlichen knstlerischen Schaffensprozess unterliegt, bleibt zu konstatieren, dass die Richtigkeit' der Bildinterpretation sehr diskussionswrdig ist. Denn Kunstprodukte zeigen sich seit je her als hchst streitbare Objekte, hnliches gilt folglich fr die Sphre der Interpretation von Kunst, wenn man sie selbst zu einer Form der Kunst erhebt. Diese Annahme wird eindrucksvoll durch die Flle an themenbezogener Literatur besttigt, die sich verschiedenster philosophischer Anstze bedient und auch eigene wissenschaftliche Lager bildet.
