Die Grostadt als Ort von Beziehungen ist Schauplatz des Geschehens, nur hier knnen sich die Geschichten ereignen, die Woody Allen uns vorfhrt. Da es sich dabei um eine besondere Stadt, New York und meistens Manhattan handelt, ist dabei nicht auer acht zu lassen. Zudem zeigt uns Allen immer ein bestimmtes Milieu, das der New Yorker Intellektuellen und Knstler. Sie leben mit, in und von der Stadt. Sie ist ihr 'natrlicher' Lebensraum. Sie, die mit einer Vielzahl von Komplexen behaftet zu sein scheinen, rennen wild gestikulierend ber ihre seelischen Probleme und Defizite redend durch die Stadt. Damit schafft Allen fast schon ein eigenes Genre. Wie dieses urbane Element in Allens Filmen zum tragen kommt, soll im Folgenden betrachtet werden. Daran anschlieend soll diskutiert werden, ob Woody Allens Erzhlweise einem Typus des 'Urbanen Erzhlens' zugeordnet werden kann. Bei den behandelten Filmen wurde auf die deutschsprachigen Synchronfassungen und Drehbcher zurckgegriffen.
