Dabei wird an die friiheren Uberlegungen angekniipft, die 1983 unter dem Titel 'Soziale Dynamik der technischen Entwicklung' im Westdeutschen Verlag erschie nen sind. Wahrend sie dort noch allgemeiner orientiert sind und nur am hi storischen Material aus der Technikgeschichte und iiber die Herausbildung der Wissenschaftsindustrie ('sciencebased industries') in den U. S. A. empi risch illustriert werden, konzentrieren wir uns hier auf die Unternehmen als eine wichtige Instanz der Technikentwicklung und auf die Organisation und Praxis der Produktinnovation. Es will zweitens einen empirischen Beitrag zur sozialwissenschaftlichen Tech nikforschung leisten. Untersuchungsgegenstand sind hier die von den ver schiedenen Disziplinen bisher stark vernachlassigten Probleme der Erzeu gung neuer Technik, der gesellschaftlichen und vor allem der organisatori schen Bedingungen der Technikgenese.
