Um in dieser neuen Wettbewerbsumgebung bestehen zu knnen, sind tiefgreifende nderungen der Unternehmenskonzeption notwendig. Fr ein Unternehmen bedeutet Agilitt die Fhigkeit, in einem Wettbewerbsumfeld lukrativ zu operieren, welches durch sich stndig ndernde Kundenwnsche charakterisiert ist. Eine Mglichkeit dem agilen Wettbewerbsumfeld zu begegnen, ist das Geschftskonzept der Mass Customization, bei dem individuell gestaltete Produkte zu Preisen vergleichbarer Standardprodukte angeboten werden sollen. Mass Customization stellt durch Kommunikation mit jedem einzelnen Kunden Produkte bereit, die dessen genaue Bedrfnisse hinsichtlich bestimmter Produkteigenschaften exakt treffen. Dies kann dazu fhren, dass jedes gefertigte Produkt ein einmaliges Unikat mit der Losgre eins ist, kann aber auch heien, dass ein homogenes Produkt massenhaft gefertigt und nachtrglich vom Kunden selbst angepasst wird.
