Verbunden mit einem zunehmenden Konkurrenzdruck und dem Wunsch des Vertriebs Umsatz auf breitestem Artikelsortiment durchzufhren, kommt erschwerend hinzu, dass die Lebenszyklen der Erzeugnisse und die Liefertermine immer kurzfristiger werden und die Lieferanten, Kunden bzw. Abnehmer immer weniger bereit sind eine eigene Vorratshaltung zu fhren. Da viele Unternehmen eine geringe Eigenkapitalquote aufweisen, kann dies alles zu einer existenzbedrohlichen Finanzkrise fhren, die nur durch die richtigen vorausschauenden kurz, bzw. viel wichtiger langfristigen, wirksamen Entscheidungen vermieden wird. Die Gterbestnde in einem Lager stellen in diesem Zusammenhang eine besondere Bedeutung dar. Ruhende Gter in einem Lager bedeuten meist eine hohe Kapitalbindung im Umlaufvermgen und damit Kosten, die letztlich das Produkt ber den Preis tragen muss und somit die Wettbewerbssituation des Unternehmens verschlechtern knnen. Diese Wirkung verstrkt sich mit zunehmenden Lagerbestand und ineffizient eingesetzter Frdertechnik im Lagerbereich und kann letztendlich zu einer vollkommenen Legalisierung der Herstellungsmarge bzw. des Herstellungsgewinns fhren. Damit wird deutlich, dass das Management von Bestnden ein geeigneter Hebel sowohl zur Kostensenkung als auch zur nachhaltigen Ergebnis und Leistungsverbesserung der Unternehmen sein kann. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wird zuerst die Bedeutung von Bestnden sowie deren Einflussfaktoren errtert. Anschlieend werden nach der Vorstellung von Klassifizierungsmethoden von Bestnden verschiedene Methoden und Instrumente zur verbesserten Vorgehensweise im Bestands und Beschaffungsmanagement vorgestellt. Ein Schwerpunkt bildet dabei die Materialflusssteuerung nach Kanban.
