In diesem Buch stellen wir die Ergebnisse unserer empirischen Untersuchungen zum Filmerleben von "Holocaust" vor. Diese Arbeit steht in der Tradition der filmpsychologischen Analysen, die am Psychologischen Institut II der Universitat K6ln gepflegt wird. Schon seit mehr als 15 Jahren haben Wilhelm Sa/ber und seine Mitarbeiter Untersuchungen zu den verschiedensten Filmen und FilmGenres durchgefiihrt. Hier wird zum ersten Male die Analyse der Wirkungen und Nach wirkungen eines Spielfilms zusammenhangend und komplett dargestellt. Die in friiheren Forschungen entwickelte Morphologische Theorie der Filmwir kung konnte am Medienereignis "Holocaust" erneut iiberpriift werden. Die Auto ren treten damit in Konkurrenz zu Medienforschern anderer Richtungen. Gerade wei I in Verbindung mit "Holocaust" fiir die Medienforschung ungeheure Summen ausgegeben worden sind, m6chten wir an dieser Stelle bemerken, daB die hier vorgestellte Arbeit ohne jegliche finanzielle Unterstiitzung zustande gekommen ist. Auch unsere Versuchspersonen haben fUr die vielen Stunden, in denen sie sich fiir Interviews zur Verfiigung stell ten, keine Vergiitung erhalten. Einige Praktikanten haben bei der Auswertung des erhobenen Materials unentgeltlich geholfen. Ohne den Idealismus unserer Versuchspersonen und einiger K6lner Studenten ware unsere Arbeit in dieser Form nicht zu bewerkstelligen gewesen. Die Bundeszentrale fUr Politische Bildung hat uns freundlicherweise einen Teil der an sie gerichteten Zuschauerpost zur Auswertung iiberlassen.
