In seiner immer spannend zu lesenden Nacherzhlung ist es Albrecht Behmel gelungen, die Geschichte sowohl originalgetreu als auch fr den modernen Leser ansprechend zu gestalten. Von besonderem Wert sind die Anmerkungen am Schlu des Buches, die die vielen versteckten Hinweise und Hintergrnde im Originaltext auf unterhaltsame Weise erklren und somit fr ein doppeltes Vergngen beim Lesen sorgen. Am 22. Februar 1784 schrieb Friedrich II. von Preuen, der Alte Fritz, an den ersten Herausgeber des Epos, Christian Heinrich Mller, der das Werk dem Knig gewidmet hatte, folgendes: Hochgelahrter, lieber Getreuer! Ihr urtheilt viel zu vorteilhafft von denen Gedichten aus dem 12., 13. und 14. Seculo, deren Druck Ihr befrdert habet, und zur Bereicherung der Teutschen Sprache so brauchbar haltet. Meiner Einsicht nach sind solche nicht einen Schu Pulver werth; und verdienten nicht aus dem Staube der Vergessenheit gezogen zu werden. In meiner BcherSammlung wenigstens wrde Ich dergleichen elendes Zeug nicht dulten; sondern herausschmeien. Das Mir davon eingesandte Exemplar mag dahero sein Schicksal in der dortigen groen Bibliothek abwarten. Viele Nachfrage verspricht aber solchem nicht, Euer sonst gndiger Knig Frch.
