Als Gegenstand romanhafter Darstellung bietet das Reisemotiv die Mglichkeit, neue Erkenntnisse ber das Selbstverstndnis poetischen Sprechens zu gewinnen. Whrend das Reisen im traditionellen Reiseroman die Totalitt epischer Darlegung bestimmt und sich in Form von Berichtetem und Aufrollen von Erlebtem auf das gesamte Werk erstreckt, kommt seiner ansatzweisen Gestaltung im modernen neueren Roman eine besondere Funktion zu. Als Gradmesser, der die Tragweite dichterischer Subjektivitt erkennt und vermittelt, fungiert das Reisen hier gleichzeitig als Form der Bestimmung von Leistung bzw. Eigentmlichkeit heutiger Erzhlkunst. Das Reisemotiv in der Vielfalt seiner Gestaltung verfolgend, unternimmt der Verfasser dieser Studie den Versuch, die Psychologie poetischer Disposition aufzuspren und, dadurch, den erzhlerischen Standort zeitgenssischen Schreibens zu bestimmen. Dabei setzt die Untersuchung, die sich nicht ausschlielich als Eingrenzung eines poetischen Leitgedankens sondern auch als Deutung einzelner Werke begreift, auf die Befragung der im jeweiligen Text konkret gestalteten dichterischen Momente.
