Sie bietet erstmals einen lckenlosen Querschnitt durch Remarques Romanschaffen in einem Zeitraum von ber fnfzig Jahren schriftstellerischer Ttigkeit und verfolgt gleichzeitig die nderungen bzw. die Bestndigkeit in der Darstellung der Frauengestalten, die eine motivtragende Rolle in der Komposition der Werke haben. Die Dissertation arbeitet die auftretenden Neuerungen in den Frauenfiguren und in den Verknpfungen unter den Motiven und deren Symbolik unter dem Aspekt der Zeit mit besonderer Aufmerksamkeit heraus und setzt sie im Kontext der damals aktuellen politischen, ideologischen, gesellschaftlichen und sozialen Prozesse ein. Als einen Kontrapunkt zur westlichen RemarqueKritik fhrt die Dissertation am Rande die sozialistische russische und bulgarische RemarqueRezeption ein. Der Gegenstand dieser Arbeit wurde bislang einer vergleichbaren Analyse nicht unterzogen. (...)
