Sigmund Freud entwickelte das Topische Modell zur Strukturierung der menschlichen Psyche. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird dessen Struktur erstmals auf die Zeugnisse der Kulturgeschichte bertragen. Als Grundlage dienen hierzu Prozession, Krnung und Liturgie, die als Ritualfamilie auf eine gemeinsame Entstehungsgeschichte zurckgehen. Damit wird das Modell auf seine Ursprnge zurckgefhrt und gibt den Sinn seiner Disposition preis: Im Zentrum steht der Konflikt zwischen Initiand und ltesten, der durch die Konsultation von neun zentralen Instanzen der Gesellschaft stufenweise seiner Lsung entgegengefhrt wird. Als mnemotechnisches Konzept hat sich dieser Weg in der Erzhlung der Epen, Evangelien, Viten und Geschichtsbcher niedergeschlagen und er reicht als meist unbewutes Ordnungsprinzip bis in die wissenschaftliche Literatur hinein, die so noch heute diesem archaischen Lsungsweg verpflichtet ist. Die Platzanlagen, Heiligtmer und Stadtplne verweisen darauf, da das Topische Modell auch tatschlich im Kontext der Topographie entstanden ist. Grundrisse und Bauplne nehmen durch die Anordnung ihrer Bildprogramme und Inschriften immer wieder neu darauf Bezug. Damit steht ein Schlssel zur Verfgung, der ber Jahrtausende hinweg seine Zuverlssigkeit bewiesen hat und es ohne jede Theorie erlaubt, alle Zeugnisse der Kultur innerhalb eines gemeinsamen Bezugsrahmens zu analysieren. Die Verbindung von Auen und Innenraum macht deutlich, da der Mensch seine Umgebung auch analog nach der Disposition seiner Psyche gestaltet. Die gegenwrtigen Konflikte in Auen und Innenpolitik bilden das gleiche Problem ab. Sie werden von einem Bedeutungszuwachs der alten Rituale begleitet, die uns daran erinnern mgen, da zur Lsung von Konflikten nicht nur zwei Gegner gehren, sondern da die Gesellschaft als Ganzes dazu beitragen mu. Denn Ontogenese und Phylogenese gehen gemeinsam den nmlichen Weg.
