Die in diesem Band enthaltenen Referate und Diskussionsbemerkungen stellen einen vollstandigen Bericht iiber die am 5. 12. 1970 in Frankfurt! Main stattgefundene Tagung dar. Vor 150 Anaesthesiologen berichteten Wissenschaftler und Kliniker aus England, Frankreich und Deutschland sowohl iiber die pharmakologischen und physiologischen Grundlagen als auch iiber die klinische Anwendung des Methohexitals, eines methylierten Oxybarbiturates. Dieses Ultrakurznarkoticum, das 1954 bei ELl: LILLY in Indianapolis entwickelt und 1960 eingefiihrt wurde, fand zunachst fast ausschlie3lich in seinem Heimatland Verwendung. In Deutschland biirgerte sich sein Ge brauch nur zogemd ein, wei1 riihrigere Arzneimittelbetriebe ausreichend viele ahnliche Praparate vertrieben. . Erst die emeute und intensive Suche nach einem Ultrakurznarkoticum, das sowohl die bisher geforderten V oraussetzungen wie schnellen Wirkungs eintritt und kurze Erholungspbase, also rasch wiederhergestellte StraBen f"ahigkeit auf weist, als auch das Risiko exzessiver Histaminfreisetzung ver meiden laBt, verhalf dem Praparat zum Durchbruch. Eine wahrend der Diskussion gestellte und wegen der Aussagekraft derartiger Angaben durcbaus berechtigte Frage, wieviel Ampullen die Firma bisher verkauft babe, wieviel Narkosen also in etwa durchgefiihrt wurden, kann jetzt beantwortet werden. Das Werk tei1te mit, daB in den Jahren von 1960 bis 1970 7027 kg Trockensubstanz Absatz fanden. Wenn man als durchschnittlich verwendete Menge 150 mg ansetzt, laBt sich be baupten, daB bisher also etwa 47 Millionen Anaesthesien durchgefiihrt wurden. Damit kann gesagt werden, daB Methohexital durchaus er probt ist.
