Lorsque les affaires de son pre priclitent, la famille s exile Lyon. Oblig d interrompre ses tudes avant le baccalaurat, Alphonse Daudet rejoint son frre Paris. Le jeune homme frquente les milieux politiques et littraires et publie un recueil de pomes, "Les Amoureuses", qui connat un grand succs et lui offre la possibilit d crire des pices de thtre, des contes et des romans. Parmi ses uvres les plus rputes, il faut citer : "Le Petit Chose" (1868), "Lettres de mon moulin" (1869), "Tartarin de Tarascon" (1872), "Les contes du lundi" (1873). Alphonse Daudet est mort Paris en 1897.
