Tras haber inspirado a novelistas, comedigrafos, msicos y pintores, en el siglo XX se pone ante la cmara cinematogrfica y demuestra estar en plena forma: no en vano se fijan en l cineastas elitistas y populares, espaoles y extranjeros, antiguos y modernos..El presente libro intenta ser el repaso ms concienzudo a toda la filmografa quijotesca y al mismo tiempo quiere plantear una cuestin: qu imagen del Ingenioso Hidalgo ha presentado el cine? La respuesta est desarrollada a lo largo de estas pginas, pero si quisiramos hacer un resumen tendramos que admitir que el Quijote del cine no siempre ha sido el de Cervantes. Pero como hemos dicho antes, la sombra de nuestro entraable caballero es alargada y las pelculas recurren muchas veces a las secuelas de la novela original, o a determinadas interpretaciones posteriores de aquellos autores que quedaron impresionados por los hallazgos cervantinos. Aunque la infidelidad a la letra ha sido siempre la principal crtica vertida sobre las adaptaciones flmicas, tambin es cierto que la nica pelcula que mostr un absoluto respeto por el original no consigui pasar a los anales del llamado Sptimo Arte, mientras que los films quijotescos mejor considerados son precisamente los que recrean el personaje desde una perspectiva personal y actualizada.
