The aim of this book is to explain the handicap of hearing loss to people with impaired hearing and to parents of hearingimpaired children. The book begins by describing how the normal ear functions and then differentiates between hearing loss in adults and children. The first section discusses childhood hearing loss occurring before normal speech development and addresses the medical care and education of the affected child. The second section explores adult problems, including hearing loss that can be successfully treated by surgery. The book includes a chapter on noise, the most common cause of hearing loss, and explains sudden deafness, hearing problems of old age, and the choice and use of hearingaids.

The book is packed with facts, but some parts felt overly technical for my taste. It's great for those needing detailed info, but I was hoping for a more general overview. Still, the content is valuable overall.

Decent but not what I expected
I thought this would be more of a personal narrative, but it's more of a facts and figures book. It's informative for sure, but it didn't quite fit my expectations. Still, I learned a lot.

Perfect for my studies in audiology
I bought this for my audiology course, and it has been a great resource. The sections on communication strategies are particularly helpful. However, a few diagrams could have made complex topics easier to grasp.

Informative and Well-Researched!
As someone who has dealt with hearing issues, I found 'Deafness: The Facts' incredibly insightful. The information is presented clearly and backed by solid research. I appreciate how it covers various aspects of deafness that aren't often discussed.

A must-read for anyone interested in hearing health
This book provides essential knowledge about deafness that's often overlooked. I particularly liked the way it explained the different types and causes. It's a great read for both professionals and laypeople like me!
