About the Author Jim Bendat has been a lawyer with the Los Angeles County Public Defender's office since 1978, and has previously written articles for the New Republic and the Los Angeles Times. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife Marilyn, children Jeremy, Francine and Jason, and their beagle Mocha.
