Wie leben sie weiter, wenn das, was als "normal" oder "selbstverstndlich" vorausgesetzt wird, durch den Einbruch des Todes in Frage gestellt wird? Aus wissenssoziologischer Perspektive ist der Tod kein natrliches Phnomen, sondern wird sozial hervorgebracht. Auf der Basis narrativer Interviews werden in dieser Arbeit Deutungsmuster und Handlungspraktiken analysiert, mittels derer der Tod konstruiert wird. Im Fokus der Analyse stehen Wissensvorrte, die Bilder vom Tod und damit auch vom Leben produzieren und reproduzieren. Die subjektiven Sichtweisen spiegeln dabei spezifische gesellschaftliche Bedingungen, die in ihrem historisch "Sogewordensein" nachvollzogen werden. Es wird deutlich, dass Gewissheiten um den Tod sich als brchig und widersprchlich darstellen und nur mit einem erweiterten Blick erfasst werden knnen, der eine Reihe von Vorurteilen um den Tod revidiert.
