Zur Begrundung des koreanischen ZenBuddhismus durch Chinul, widmet sich ganz dem Leben, dem Werk und dem handlungsweisenden Denken des Son bei Chinul (11581210), der pragenden Gestalt in der Zeit von Koryo. Chinul hat, ohne dass er selbst in China gewesen ware, die fruhen Bildungsformen des chinesischen Chanbuddhismus durch jene Schriften rezipiert, die einen besonderen Stellenwert im Studium haben. Was als das sich erganzende Verhaltnis von Son und Kyo, der schriftlichen Lehre, im Werk Keels zur Darstellung kommt, gibt dem koreanischen Sonbuddhismus eine eigene Pragung, die sich deutlich von den Zenhaltungen eines Dogen und all dem unterscheidet, was als Zenbuddhismus in den letzten Jahrzehnten im deutschsprachigen Raum hat rezipiert werden konnen.Das Son des Chinul unterscheidet sich vor allem durch die Anerkennung und Integration der sowohl von der orthodoxen Chan als auch der in Japan vorherrschenden ZenTradition verworfenen Lehre durch die tradierten Schriften.Heesung Keel studierte Philosophie in Seoul an der National Universitat, Theologie in Yale, promovierte in Harvard, unterrichtete auch in den USA und lehrt seit 1984 als Professor fur Religionswissenschaft an der Sogang Universitat in Seoul.
