Um die gesamte Tragweite des Einflusses der neuen IuKTechnologien analysieren zu knnen, ist es unerlsslich, auch auf die sozial und wirtschaftsstrukturelle Beschaffenheit von Gesellschaften einzugehen. Aus diesem Grund wird im ersten Kapitel aufgezeigt, wie sich die rumliche und temporale Organisation des Arbeitsprozesses vor dem Hintergrund des bergangs vom materiellen Paradigma der Industriegesellschaft hin zur 'entmaterialisierten' Informations und Wissensgesellschaft verndert hat. Hierbei nehmen die in den 1980er Jahren entstandenen und vor allem in den 1990er Jahren diffundierten IuKTechnologien wie Internet, Intranet, EMail usw. einen zentralen Stellenwert ein, indem sie von Menschen und Unternehmen nicht nur zur Wissens und Informationsproduktion genutzt werden, sondern ihnen gleichzeitig ermglicht haben, auch in der rumlichen und zeitlichen Organisation und Distribution der Arbeit neue Wege zu beschreiten. Im zweiten Kapitel werden die Vernderungen auf der mesosoziologischen Stufe thematisiert. Konkret soll dargelegt werden, welche Mglichkeiten der rumlichen Arbeitsverteilung und der zeitlichen Flexibilisierung der Arbeitsablufe durch den Gebrauch von polyvalent einsetzbaren IuKTechnologien fr Unternehmen entstanden sind. In diesem Kapitel wird sowohl auf die vernderte Arbeitsorganisation (Netzwerkunternehmen, virtuelle Organisationen) als auch auf die neu entstandenen Arbeitsformen (Telearbeit, mobile Arbeit) eingegangen.
