Renommierte Zeitungen berichten ber dicke Kinder' oder ber eine immer adipser werdende Bevlkerung, die das Gesundheitssystem belastet. Es gibt Internetplattformen rund um das Thema Essen (www.kochbar.de) und im Fernsehen tummeln sich mittlerweile fast mehr Fernsehkche und kchinnen als Nachrichtensprecher/innen. Trotz des offenen Umgangs mit der bergeordneten Thematik Essen gibt es einen Tabubereich, der in den Medien selten auftaucht. So stehen Beitrge zu Essstrungen relativ selten in den Programmlisten, wobei eher wenig reflektierte Beitrge zu Superlativen la der dickste Mann der Welt' hiervon ausgenommen sind. Besonders wenn es um das Thema Magersucht' geht, wird die mediale Auswahl dnn'. Wie kommt das? Tragen die Medien eventuell eine Mitschuld an der steigenden Anzahl von Essgestrten? Vor dem Hintergrund dieser Frage wird in dieser Arbeit das Thema Essstrungen aufbereitet. Dabei wird zunchst ein berblick ber verschiedene Essstrungsformen gegeben. Im Zentrum steht dabei eine der extremsten Formen der Magersucht, die Anorexia nervosa (A. n.). Zum besseren Verstndnis wird diese von zwei anderen Formen der Essstrung, der Bulimia nervosa (B. n.) und der Binge Eating Disorder (BED), abgegrenzt. Auerdem wird ein ausfhrlicher berblick ber den Forschungsstand zu urschlichen Faktoren fr das Auftreten von Essstrungen gegeben.
