Die Ergebnisse der Untersuchung sind in sich gegenlaufig: Zwar wird der englischen Religionsphilosophie in Deutschland Aufmerksamkeit gewidmet, eine systematischargumentative Begegnung bzw. Aufnahme bleibt jedoch randstandig. Einen pragenden Einfluss auf die Entwicklung der deutschen evangelischen Theologie des 18. Jahrhunderts hat der englische Deismus nicht gehabt. Allerdings wird im Verlaufe der Diskussion mit der englischen Literatur der Atheismusdiskurs des 17. Jahrhunderts grundlegend transformiert: In der Nachfolge des 'Atheismus' erscheint der 'englische Deismus' in Deutschland als der Vorbote einer christentumsfeindlichen und kirchenfernen Gesellschaftsformation, vor deren Hintergrund die deutsche evangelische Theologie zu einem grundsatzlichen Wandel gelangt.
