Zukunftsweisende, fr den dauerhaften Frieden und die Stabilitt im Land elementare Fragen betrafen den Umgang mit den Geschehnissen des Brgerkrieges. Wie sollten die zahlreichen Menschenrechtsverletzungen aufgearbeitet und die Vergangenheit bewltigt werden? Auf welchem Weg konnten das Verlangen der Opfer nach Gerechtigkeit befriedigt und die Vershnung innerhalb der Bevlkerung erreicht werden? Fr die Gestaltung des Transitionsprozesses in Postkonfliktgesellschaften gibt es kein Patentrezept. Da jedoch viele afrikanische Staaten von Konflikten, Brgerkriegen und Kriegen betroffen waren und es noch immer sind, kann konstatiert werden, dass gerade diese Staaten eine Vorreiterrolle bezglich der Vergangenheitsbewltigung, des Umganges mit Kriegsverbrechen und Menschenrechtsverletzungen sowie weiterer mit dem bergangsprozess zusammenhngender Aspekte spielen. Die Besonderheit im Fall von Sierra Leone besteht darin, dass hier neben Amnestieregelungen fr die Tter auch die Einrichtung eines Sondergerichtshofes und einer Wahrheits und Vershnungskommission beschlossen wurden.
