Er leitet den neuen Studiengang Bildung und Erziehung in der Kindheit und darin den Studienschwerpunkt Familienberatung. Nach einem Jahr als Schuler in den USA machte er das Abitur auf dem 2. Bildungsweg und studierte anschliessend Psychologie, Publizistik und Psychologie an der FU Berlin. Dort lernte er auch seine Frau Susanne kennen, die heute als medizinische Psychotherapeutin in freier Praxis arbeitet. Beide sind seit 1977 verheiratet und haben vier Kinder: Lucie, Julia, David und Robin und ein Enkelkind Clara. Er ist Autor mehrerer Fachbucher zur Familienpsychologie und Familientherapie. Forschungsprojekte in den letzten Jahren zu Globalisierungsfolgen fur die privaten Beziehungen und Kinder und ihre Familien.
