Zu Anfang sollen Grundbegriffe der Erzhltheorie und dem Typus des Erzhlers, unter anderem nach den Werken von Stanzel und Genette gegeben werden. Hierbei soll besonderes Augenmerk auf dem Erzhler liegen. Im Anschluss daran wird der IchErzhler als Protagonist der Erzhlung nher beleuchtet. Daraufhin soll ein Interpretationsansatz zur Erzhlung in Hinblick auf die Hauptcharaktere und der Erzhlsituation geliefert werden. Im Anschluss werden die Geschehnisse aus Sicht des IchErzhlers in Bernhards Erzhlung chronologisch in Form eines Zeitstrahls angeordnet und im Folgenden analysiert.
