Die Krebsdiagnose seines Arztes macht ihm bewusst, dass nicht die Schweiz es ist, die sterben muss, sondern er selbst. Nach einem turbulenten Abend verbrennt er das Manuskript. Da kann er wieder schreiben: nicht die Geschichte der sterbenden Schweiz, sondern die Geschichte seines eigenen Sterbens. Bern, Zrich und Paris sind die Schaupltze dieses Romans, in dem versucht wird, zwischen der 68er Revolte und dem Fall der BerlinerMauer einen Bogen zu spannen und diese beiden Ereignisse mit der Biographie des Protagonisten zu verknpfen.
