Was wir uns unter einem Liebesbrief vorstellen, ist mit dem Entstehen der brgerlichen Gesellschaft und der Herausbildung des Individuellen eng verbunden.In welcher Gestalt aber wurde die Erfindung des brgerlichen Liebesbriefs im 18. Jahrhundert bis in die Gegenwart mit ihren medialen Brchen fortgeschrieben? Gibt es eine Invarianz der Liebessprache in Briefen, oder sind sie Teil der allgemeinen Entwicklung der Schriftkultur? Im vorliegenden Band eines Braunschweiger Forschungsprojekts zur Liebesbriefkultur sind Beitrge versammelt, die sich diesen bisher kaum erforschten Fragen stellen. Experten aus Literaturwissenschaft, Theologie und Wissenschaftsgeschichte stellen autor und problemorientierte Zugnge vor: von Lessing und Eva Knig zu Ingeborg Bachmann und Hans Werner Henze, vom englischen Briefroman des 18. Jahrhunderts zu SMS und MMS. Die Ergebnisse berraschen: Offenkundig hat die Sprache der Gefhle ein freieres Spiel im Kultursystem als dies bisher angenommen wurde. Der Liebesbrief entwirft als Dokument alltglicher kultureller Praxis ein Schrift und Zeitregime eigener Ordnung und ist als Phnomen sui generis zu betrachten: Es gibt eine spezifische Liebesbriefkultur, die ihre Eigenart zwischen vorgegebenen Diskursangeboten und privatsprachlicher Intimitt entfaltet und behauptet. Der vorliegende Band legt einen wichtigen Grundstein zu ihrer Erforschung.
