Anthropomorphe Vorstellungen sind in der abendlndischen Kultur zu allen Zeiten auffindbar. In der Sprache, der Literatur, in politischen Theorien, in der Philosophie, der Theologie und der bildenden Kunst treten diese Grundmuster menschlichen Denkens auf. Je weiter man schlielich zeitlich zurckgeht, desto mehr Anthropomorphismen sind zu finden, ebenso mehr irrtmliche Erklrungen. Ihre auerordentliche Verbreitung verdankt die Menschenanalogie wohl dem Verfahren, unbekannte neue Dinge oder auf andere Weise Unsagbares durch etwas Vertrautes auszudrcken, in einer Metapher also nichts liegt nher, als dabei auf den menschlichen Krper zurckzugreifen."(1) Ein Ma und Proportionssystem auf der Grundlage des menschlichen Krper zu entwickeln durchzieht die gesamte Entwicklung der Knste, sowohl Architektur und Malerei als auch die Bildhauerei. Die im folgenden besprochenen Knstler und Architekten sollen zeitbezogene Beispiele dafr geben, wie mit dem Gedanken, den Mensch als das Ma aller Dinge einzusetzen, umgegangen wird. (1)Frings, 1998.
