Dieses Zitat aus dem Prolog von Goethes Faust beinhaltet bereits wesentliche Elemente ber das Thema Mensch. Doch ist der Mensch wirklich gut und wandert er tatschlich im dunklen Drange? Die Antwort auf diese Urfrage der Anthropologie wird auch heute noch heftig debattiert. So beschftigt sich die politische Wissenschaft zum Beispiel in der Kriegsursachenforschung unter dem so genannten First Image" mit dem Wesen des Menschen. Die Einschtzungen ber den Menschen variieren sehr stark und die Frage nach dessen Natur bereitete den Philosophen ber Jahrhunderte hinweg Kopfschmerzen. Thomas Hobbes und JeanJacques Rousseau haben sich ebenfalls sehr stark mit der Anthropologie auseinandergesetzt. Die beiden aus unterschiedlichen Jahrhunderten stammenden Denker haben ihre politische Philosophie aus einer Grundannahme ber das Wesen des Menschen heraus entwickelt. Hobbes und Rousseau, obwohl sie einige wesentlichen Unterschiede trennen, haben doch auch viele Gemeinsamkeiten die es zu errtern gilt. Die folgende Arbeit beschftigt sich mit dem jeweiligen Menschenbild von Thomas Hobbes und JeanJacques Rousseau. Ausgehend von einer Einzelanalyse sollen die beiden Philosophen schlielich verglichen werden.
