Die vorliegenden Beitrage gehen anliiBlich des zweihundertjahrigen Jubi laums der FranzOsischen Revolution zum einen auf eine Vortragsreihe der Universitat Oldenburg zuriick ("Frauen brechen auf. Revolution oder Un gehorsam?" Sommersemester 1988); zum anderen auf Vortrage, die in New Orleans (Dezember 1988) bzw. Paderbom (September 1989) gehal ten worden sind. Die Frage nach Gleichheit und Freiheit fUr Frauen in Franlcreich bzw. Deutschland im ausgehenden 18. und beginnenden 19. Jahrhundert be stimmt das Vorgehen der Autorinnen, die unterschiedlichen Fachrichtun gen angehOren (Geschichts, Sozial, Musik und Literaturwissenschaft). Die Interdisziplinaritat eroffnet die Moglichkeit, zentrale Aspekte zum Thema "Frauen und Revolution" (Geschlechterordnung und Patriarchat, Weiblichkeitsentwfirfe und Gegenbilder, Realitatsmuster und Utopien) anhand unterschiedlicher Quellen, mit Hilfe unterschiedlicher Ansatze und Methoden zu untersuchen. In welcher Weise haben die Frauen an den Folgen des revolutionaren Umbruchs in Franlcreich teilgehabt; hat sich damit zusammenhiingen ihr politischsozialer, wirtschaftlichrechtlicher Status veriindert? Ergaben sich kulturelle Perspektiven fUr die Frauen? Anhand von zuin Teil bislang wenig beachteten Quellen gehen die Autorinnen diesen Fragen nacho Eins bleibt bereits festzuhalten: Nach politischen, vor al1em literarischkiinstle rischen Aufbruchsversuchen infolge des revolutionaren Ereignisses ver harteten sich in der 'Frauenfrage' (Geschlechterverhiltnis etc. ) die Fron ten; die rechtliche Gleichstellung zwischen Mann und Frau, der Eintritt der Frau in die Offentlichkeit, ihre politischsoziale Teilhabe waren nach lange nieht in Sicht, geschweige denn gesichert.
