Um diese Region bewerten zu knnen, werden zuerst die naturrumlichen Gegebenheiten der Region dargestellt. Anschlieend werden die wichtigsten Wirtschaftszweige angesprochen. Auch die Versorgung einer Region mit Dienstleistungen ist fr eine Bestandsaufnahme der Lebens und Siedlungsbedingungen im Outback von nicht geringer Bedeutung. Ein grerer Teil dieser Arbeit beschftigt sich mit der dort lebenden Bevlkerung und der Besiedlung. Im Anschlu daran werden noch einige Stdte vorgestellt, die ein wenig die Vielfalt der Siedlungsarten in diesen Raum darstellen sollen. Zum Abschlu wird dann noch eine Pro und Contra Darstellung im Hinblick auf die Problematik, welche das Leben und Wohnen im Outback mit sich bringt, erfolgen. Fr das Verstndnis der Thematik ist es von Vorteil, den Begriff Outback hier einmal zu beschreiben und die Region abzugrenzen. Auf der Karte auf Seite 15 sind die Siedlungs und Lebensrume in Australien dargestellt und insbesondere ist der Outback kartographisch abgegrenzt. Der Begriff Outback ist ein Umgangssprachlicher Ausdruck und nicht genau definiert. Die Karten zeigen eine Abgrenzung welche sich auf die Bevlkerungsdichte sowie eine Erreichbarkeit der groen Stdtischen Zentren bezieht. Dazu liegt ein Radius von 300 km um die Metropolen herum. Die Bevlkerungsdichte ist das wichtigste Abgrenzungskriterium. Wenn ein Einwohner auf weniger als 5 km2 zu finden ist, dann spricht man in diesen Bereich vom Outback.
