Dieser philosophischen Strmung zufolge ist der praktische Umgang mit den Dingen der (Um)Welt die einzig sinnvolle Quelle fr Wissen und Erkenntnis. Der Mensch und sein Handeln rcken im Erkenntnisprozess in den Vordergrund. Demzufolge ist der Pragmatismus der Gegenspieler zur traditionellen Erkenntnisphilosophie, die noch heute in Europa nachwirkt. Deweys erklrte Absicht bestand darin, die alltglichen, menschlichen Probleme mithilfe der Philosophie zu lsen, um die Lebensqualitt der Menschen langfristig zu verbessern. Trotz der zahlreichen philosophischen und pdagogischen Schriften, die er in diesem Sinne verffentlichte, brachte er selbst seine kunstphilosophischen Betrachtungen nie explizit in Verbindung mit seinem pdagogischen Ansatz. Doch Deweys sthetik birgt groe Potenziale fr eine Pdagogik, die den SchlerInnen aller Altersgruppen langfristig Wachstum, Reife, Selbstvertrauen, Kritikfhigkeit und Freude an lebenslanger Bildung ermglicht. Deweys sthetische Theorie darzulegen und ihre pdagogischen Potenziale aufzudecken ist oberstes Ziel dieser Studie.
