Es gibt Dinge, ber die man keine Witze macht. Es sei denn, man erlebt sie selbst. Auf den ersten Blick paradox, sind gerade aus der Phase des nationalsozialistischen Regimes politische Witze in groer Zahl dokumentiert, in Witzsammlungen, in autobiographischen Aufzeichnungen, aber auch in Gerichts und Gestapoakten. Zwei unterschiedliche Positionen prgen die Diskussion zum politischen Witz: "Der politische Witz dient als Waffe gegen ein abgelehntes Regime." bzw. "Der politische Witz dient als Ventil zur psychischen Entlastung von Witzerzhler und Zuhrer." Dabei wird der Witz zumeist als Textsorte gesehen und ber seinen textlichen Charakter empirisch erfat. In dieser Arbeit wird der gngigen Praxis ein begriffliches Verstndnis gegenbergestellt, das den Witz als ein kommunikatives Geschehen erschliet: komplex, interaktional und dynamisch. Dadurch wird es mglich, den politischen Witz hinsichtlich seiner Funktionalitt neu zu bewerten. Ausgewhlte theoretische Anstze der Kommunikationswissenschaft werden auf ihre Relevanz fr ein Erkenntnisobjekt wie den Witz hin analysiert. Im Zuge dieser Analyse zeigen sich Chancen, aber auch vorhandene Defizite kommunikationswissenschaftlicher Theoriebildung im Kontext individualkommunikativer Phnomene.
