Und man kann konstatieren, dass Schweden tatschlich eine beispiellose Entwicklung von einem einfachen Agrarstaat hin zu einem modernen Wohlfahrtsstaat durchlaufen hat. Doch auch in Schweden kam es im Laufe dieser Entwicklung zu Krisen und Finanzierungsproblemen des Systems. Besonders Ende der 80er und zu Beginn der 90er Jahren wurde Schweden von einer Krise heimgesucht, die das universalistische Sozialsystem in seinen Grundmauern zu erschttern drohte und die Krzung einiger Leistungen nach sich zog. Nach eingehenden Reformen kmpft das Land auch zu Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts, um an den alten wohlfahrtsstaatlichen Leistungskatalog anknpfen zu knnen, muss jedoch gravierende Einschnitte konzedieren. Zentrale Frage dieser Arbeit wird stets sein, was gerade Schweden so auszeichnete, dass jenem Land diese vorbildliche Modellhaftigkeit zugeschrieben wurde. Das Hauptaugenmerk der Analyse des Sozialstaates soll auf den Besonderheiten des schwedischen Modells liegen, welche sonst, zumindest auerhalb Skandinaviens, in dieser Form nicht zu finden sind. Gerade das sog. RehnMeidnerModell der Vollbeschftigung, das regelmig als die Basis und zugleich auch als das bergeordnete Ziel des Wohlfahrtsstaates in Schweden angesehen wurde, soll genauer untersucht werden. Ferner wird diese Entwicklung in ihrem geschichtlichen Kontext dargestellt, um schlielich den status quo zu Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts des bestehenden Sozialstaat
