Die Organisationskomitees der jeweiligen Lnder betreiben immensen Aufwand und investieren erhebliche Summen in die Bewerbung um die Austragung derartiger MegaEvents. Denn schlielich besteht die Mglichkeit sich der Weltffentlichkeit zu prsentieren. In diesem Imagefaktor liegt wohl das grte Potential fr die gastgebende Nation, vor allem im Hinblick auf Tourismus und Wirtschaft. Doch ist es nicht Ziel dieser Studie, die Wirtschaftlichkeit eines Sportgroereignisses zu prfen, vielmehr steht der Verbraucher bzw. Sportkonsument und sein Verhalten bezglich dieses Ereignisses im Mittelpunkt. Dieser wird im erheblichen Mae von dem Event beeinflusst. Man mchte sogar behaupten, dass ein Gastgeberland sich whrend der Dauer des Turniers im Ausnahmezustand befindet, so prgte z. B. der Begriff Sommermrchen" den Zeitraum der FIFA Fuballweltmeisterschaft 2006 in Deutschland. Ein solches Event ist in vielerlei Hinsicht nicht nur das sportliche, sondern auch das gesellschaftliche und mediale Highlight des Jahres. Aus dem Titel dieses Buches leiten sich drei Themenblcke ab: Sport als Konsumgut, das Verbraucherverhalten und das Eventmanagement. Diese Themen werden im Folgenden in gleicher Reihenfolge errtert und bilden die theoretische Grundlage fr das weitere Vorgehen. Nach der allgemeinen Theoriephase wird auf den aktuellen Forschungsstand zu derartigen Sportgroereignissen eingegangen. Hierbei handelt es sich generell um ein noch sehr wenig wissenschaftlich erforschtes Gebiet. Im Rahmen des Buches werden dazu zwei noch sehr junge Studien zu diesem Thema vorgestellt. Die erste bezieht sich auf die WM 2006 in Deutschland und die zweite auf die EM 2008 in sterreich und der Schweiz. Den zweiten Schwerpunkt absolvierte der Autor whrend seines Auslandsemesters and der University of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australien. Der Praktische Bezug zu den Themen Sport und Events, im Besonderen im Zusammenhang mit der Fuballbrache, erfolgte anhand diverser Ttigkeiten.
