Der IchErzhler ist hnlich angelegt und auch der Themenkreis um katholisches Dorf und Tod, ebenso wie die Bilder, die montageartig aneinandergereiht werden, sind dem Leser bekannt. Im Zentrum dieses Buches stehen eindeutig der Tod des Vaters, der Tod an sich und der Umgang damit. In vielen Rezensionen wird ein Vershnungsprozess mit dem Vater deklariert. Ob das tatschlich der Fall ist, ist fraglich, aber sicher ist, dass der Konflikt zwischen Vater und Sohn dargelegt wird. Dies wird vor allem durch eine stark dichotomische Struktur des Textes deutlich. Sowohl auf der Textoberflche als auch in Erzhlverfahren und Buchaufbau lassen sich kontrastive Aspekte schnell ausmachen. Am aufflligsten in der offensichtlichen Zweiteilung des Buches durch den rtlichen Wechsel von Krnten nach Varanasi, der auch auf das Gesamtwerk Winklers verweist, das sich von der Trilogie Das wilde Krnten zu Domra und Roppongi Requiem fr einen Vater hin entwickelt hat. Die Wende im Buch wird durch den Tod des Vaters, der wie eine Mittelzsur wirkt, markiert. Solche antagonistischen Strukturen in Winklers uvre werden in der Literatur oft negiert, weswegen es wichtig erscheint sie in Roppongi klar herauszuarbeiten und ihre konfliktverdeutlichende Funktion zu zeigen. Interessant ist dieser Aspekt auch aufgrund der Tatsache, dass dieses Buch Josef Winklers oft als Zsur in seinem Werk beschrieben wird, da der wahrhaftige Tod des Vaters ein bedeutendes Ereignis sei.
