Die Bedeutung von Netzwerkeffekten nimmt in stark von Informations und K munikationstechnologie geprgten Branchen wie Telekommunikation oder Medien bzw. im Internet stetig zu. Dort stehen zunehmend Plattformen im Mittelpunkt von Produkt und Wettbewerbsstrategien. Konkurrierende Unternehmen sind bestrebt, eine groe Vielfalt an komplementren Produkten fr ihre Plattformen anzubieten, um ihren Kunden einen mglichst hohen Nutzen resultierend aus der Plattform bieten zu knnen. Als Folge tritt mit sogenannten Business Webs eine spezielle Form von Unternehmensnetzwerken in Erscheinung, deren Ziel die Durchsetzung einer Plattform ist. Diese Business Webs sind zum zentralen Momentum von We bewerb und Dynamik in derartigen Mrkten geworden, so dass dort nicht mehr so sehr einzelne Unternehmen gegeneinander antreten, sondern ganze Verbnde von Unternehmen. Die betriebswirtschaftliche Forschung hat diesem Phnomen und den damit verb denen Implikationen fr Unternehmensstrategie und Wettbewerbspolitik erst in den vergangenen ca. zehn Jahren zunehmend Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt. Der Autor widmet sich diesem jungen Forschungsfeld, indem er in der vorliegenden Arbeit den Wettbewerb zwischen Business Webs gerade in der Entstehung neuer Mrkt unt sucht. Dabei trgt er zur Klrung der Begriffe der Plattform und des Business Webs bei und stellt insbesondere auf theoretischer wie empirischer Grundlage dar, wie sich Dynamik und Strategien der beteiligten Akteure konkurrierender Business Webs entwickeln. Dem Wettbewerb zwischen Business Webs liegt ein Wettbewerb zwischen Pla formen zugrunde. Solche Plattformen sind seit einigen Jahren Gegenstand desi theoretischer sowie industriekonomischer bzw. netzwerkkonomischer Analyse.
