Im Frhjahre 1885, nach der Vollendung des vierten Theiles des Zarathustra, scheint mein Bruder bereits, den Aufzeichnungen nach, entschlossen gewesen zu sein, den Willen zur Macht als Lebensprincip zum Mittelpunkt seines theoretischphilosophischen Hauptwerkes zu machen. Wir finden den Titel: Der Wille zur Macht, eine Auslegung alles Geschehens. Im Winter 1885/86 wollte er aber zunchst eine kleine Schrift darber zusammenstellen, zu der wir eine ganze Reihe Aufzeichnungen haben. Er nennt sie: Der Wille zur Macht. Versuch einer neuen Weltauslegung. Es ist so begreiflich, da er vor der ungeheueren Aufgabe schauderte, den Willen zur Macht in der Natur, Leben, Gesellschaft, als Wille zur Wahrheit, Religion, Kunst, Moral, bis in alle Consequenzen hinein darzustellen. Ach, wie oft wird er sich verzweifelt gesagt haben: ein Einzelner! ach nur ein Einzelner! und dieser groe Wald und Urwald! So versucht er immer wieder, um sich die Aufgabe etwas leichter und bersichtlicher zu machen, das groe Werk in kleinere, weniger umfangreiche Schriften zu zerlegen. Er plant z.B. im Frhjahr 1886 zehn neue Schriften zu verfassen und vielleicht als neue Unzeitgeme Betrachtungen zu verffentlichen.
