Se dise y evalu un destilador solar tipo caseta asimtrico de lminas de vidrio transparente, con la finalidad de estudiar su eficiencia a escala piloto bajo las condiciones climticas del Estado Zulia (Venezuela), determinando la cantidad de agua desalinizada producida y su aplicabilidad para consumo humano, de tal forma que logre ser implementado a gran escala en poblados apartados, con problemas de escasez de agua y cuenten con fuentes de agua salobre y alto potencial de energa solar. Para el procedimiento se prepar tres aguas sintticas con concentraciones de cloruro de 5.000, 10.000 y 30.000 mg/l, y dos aguas naturales: una procedente de una fuente superficial y otra subterrnea, para ser utilizadas como alimentacin al destilador, durante un perodo de 20 das para cada una de las aguas sintticas y 15 das para las naturales; alcanzando la fase experimental un perodo de 6 meses. Los resultados mostraron que existe una dependencia entre la cantidad de destilado y las condiciones climticas, mientras que la calidad es totalmente independiente obtenindose un volumen medio de 197,14 ml/da con un mximo de 286,60 ml/da y un mnimo de 41,60 ml/da.
