In academic setting, reading forms the basis for writing. Academic writing often requires incorporating ideas, quotations, statistics and paraphrases from source texts. Unfortunately, most students, although good at locating information in the source texts, merely transfer information without interpreting, paraphrasing or rephrasing the original. This informs the context of the present study which looks at the possibility of developing competence in academic skills in learners on professional courses, such as BTech, M.B.A., M.C.A., and various branches of the sciences. The material connecting reading to writing seen as reciprocal acts of composing has been designed meticulously; keeping in view the learner needs in order to develop learner autonomy in reading and writing. The tasks and the units are graded with specific selfinstructional rubrics and objectives. This book introduces students to the nuances of advanced writing and reading skills in genre specific contexts. One of the primary aims of the book is to develop advanced features of writing at lexical, syntactic and discourse levels connecting readingwriting.
