The fun, handson physical science lessons/experiments in this 312page book teach science principles found in state and national science standards for grades 4 to 8. Students also learn and practice critical thinking through the application of the scientific method of investigation. Each activity is a 10 to 30minute guided experiment in which students are prompted to verbalize their stepbystep observations, predictions, and conclusions. Reproducible pictures or charts are included when needed, but the focus is inquirybased, handson science.Preparation time is short, and most materials can be found around the classroom. Stepbystep procedures, questions, answer guidelines, and clear illustrations are provided. Practical applications at the end of each activity relate science concepts to reallife experiences. These activities can be used successfully with a minimum of science knowledge, preparation time, and science equipment. The lessons/experiments teach science following these four important educational themes: • Science can and should motivate students toward learning and toward developing curiosity about the world in which they live. • Science is viewed as an active process of developing ideas, or storybuilding, rather than as static bodies of alreadyexisting knowledge to be passed on to students. • Students are encouraged to observe and describe their observations accurately and completely using scientific terminology. • An open, interactive atmosphere in the classroom is essential.

I bought this workbook for my 4th grader and it's been awesome! The hands-on activities really engage her and help reinforce the concepts. It's great for physical science and covers a lot of ground for grades 4-8. Definitely a solid pick for any parent looking to boost their child's critical thinking skills.

Nice but needs clearer instructions
This workbook has some fun activities, but I found a few of the instructions a bit unclear. My kids enjoyed the experiments, but I had to step in sometimes to guide them. Still, it's a valuable addition to their science education.

Disappointed with the content quality
I was really looking forward to using this for my students, but I was let down. Some pages came crinkled, and the quality of the printing could be better. The concept is great, but I wish the execution matched that enthusiasm.
