El desarrollo de la infraestructura cientfica y tecnolgica pasa inevitablemente por el desarrollo de la capacidad de medir y evaluar con criterio cientfico, es decir, por la metrologa. El saber medir bien incide directamente sobre el perfeccionamiento de nuevos productos, su calidad y aceptacin en los mercados internacionales; sobre las prcticas industriales y mdicas; en la justeza de las relaciones comerciales y en la investigacin cientfica y tecnolgica. En el presente volumen se describe un mtodo para evaluar la idoneidad con que se estn satisfaciendo las demandas metrolgicas de la industria en un entorno dado. Este mtodo es, esencialmente, estadstico, sin embargo, tambin incluye el anlisis de informcin oficial. Las conclusiones obtenidas permitirn tener un panorama claro de las necesidades de los usuarios y las reas de oportunidad en la oferta, lo que deviene en la generacin de polticas gubernamentales y en el establecimiento de nuevos laboratorios secundarios, y se traduce en ltima instancia en generacin de riqueza.
