A nivel mundial, la crisis en la produccin de nuevas molculas y el rpido desarrollo de resistencia a los productos acaricidas son factores asociados al control de la garrapata del ganado Rhipicephalus microplus. Colombia no escapa a esta realidad, y hasta ahora muy pocos estudios han caracterizado este problema en nuestro pas. Un estudio epidemiolgico realizado en 54 fincas ganaderas distribuidas en 21 veredas del municipio de Filandia (Quindo Colombia) fue aplicado para medir el grado de percepcin de los productores en relacin a la biologa y control de la garrapata. Al mismo tiempo fueron recolectadas cepas de campo de Rhipicephalus microplus con el objetivo de diagnosticar la sensibilidad a los productos comerciales utilizados en la regin mediante la tcnica de Shaw "paquete de larvas". El estudio concluye que los productores de la regin poseen una dependencia qumica para el control acaricida, sin contar con el debido soporte tcnico, y peor an, presentan falencias en las tcnicas de aplicacin y proteccin personal; lo que ha contribuido a la presencia de cepas multidrogaresistentes por el aumento de la presin de seleccin del acaricida sobre las garrapatas.
