Ce dictionnaire fait suite a une grammaire et un recueil de textes publies en 1970. comporte trois parties d'inegale importance. Un premier livre est exclusivement consacre a la langue, presentant chacun des items, avec ses caracteristiques grammaticales, une traduction explicite en francais et en anglais et, le cas echeant, avec son equivalent hausa, langue vehiculaire de cette region. La plupart sont illustres d'exemples. Un deuxieme livre presente les Lexiques alphabetiques des langues cibles, francais, anglais, hausa, avec leur correspondant birom. Le troisieme livre, le Dictionnaire thematique, est le plus innovant. Reprenant le vocabulaire en fonction des matieres, il a pour objet de donner un apercu de la vision birom du monde a travers sa langue. Il est divise en quatre sections: milieu naturel, milieu interieur et relationnel, societe, techniques. photographies ou dessins, ont pour objet de donner un aspect plus concret a l'ensemble de l'ouvrage en presentant les realites specifiques au milieu et a la population birom
