La Didctica de las Ciencias Naturales es un campo de estudio que se ha venido fortaleciendo desde hace sesenta aos aproximadamente y en la actualidad es considerada una disciplina cientfica consolidada. En esta investigacin se presenta una visin interdisciplinar y multidimensional (se abordaron las dimensiones: ontolgica, epistemolgica, poltica, pedaggica y disciplinar) acorde a las necesidades actuales de formacin cientfica. El estudio documental sigui un enfoque metodolgico cualitativo socio histrico e interpretativo, con un nivel proyectivo. Se discuti la idea de didctica y de la didctica de las ciencias naturales, a travs de su desarrollo evolutivo, lo cual permiti comprender la necesidad que se presenta en la actualidad de asumir criterios interdisciplinares para el abordaje de los contenidos, al igual que se requiere mayor pertinencia social de los mismos. Reconocer a la Didctica de las Ciencias Naturales como campo de investigacin interdisciplinar y complejo, es un buen punto de partida que busca fomentar una cultura cientfica para la sociedad en este momento histrico.
