Die indogermanische Verbalmorphologie bietet immer noch ungeloste Probleme. Zu den noch offenen Fragen gehort, warum es verschiedene Prasensstammbildungen gibt und was ihre Funktionen waren. Gegenstand der Monographie ist eine Klasse von Prasensstammen in den indoiranischen Sprachen Vedisch, Avestisch und Altpersisch, die Klasse der sogenannten AoristPrasentien. Die Arbeit bietet eine vollstandige Sammlung der gesicherten Falle in den altesten indoiranischen Texten mit allen bezeugten paradigmatischen Formen und jeweils einer genauen Beschreibung ihrer semantischen und syntaktischen Verwendung. Eine systematische Untersuchung der Textbelege unter Einbeziehung der wurzelverwandten Prasens und Aoriststamme mit anderer Morphologie ermoglicht Einblicke in die Entstehung und die ursprungliche Semantik der Prasensklasse.
