Sie bildete ber ein Jahrtausend lang den klsterlichen, geistigen und kulturellen Mittelpunkt der Stadt und des Bistums. Als im Jahre 1964 Papst Paul IV. der Pfarrkirche St. Emmeram die Ehre und Wrde einer Basilika verlieh, schrieb er: Heiliger Boden ist jener Teil der Stadt Regensburg, wo das dem Bischof und Mrtyrer Emmeram geweihte Gotteshaus aufragt." St. Emmeram ist der grte vorromanische Kirchenbau Deutschlands und zhlt zu den ehrwrdigsten kirchlichen und geschichtlichen Sttten des deutsprachigen Raums. Die Baugeschichte ist eine sehr komplexe. Jede Baumanahme stellt einen wichtigen Abschnitt in der Klostergeschichte dar. Die Aufgabe dieser Arbeit soll es sein, die Geschichte der Kirche zusammenfassend darzustellen. Der wichtigste Teil ist die Barockisierung unter den Gebrder Asam, die 1731 33 die Ausstattung der Kirche bernahmen. Ausgangspunkt der Betrachtung der barocken Umgestaltung ist aber die mittelalterliche Kirche St. Emmerams. Bis heute lsst sich sehr wenig Literatur zur Baugeschichte der Kirche finden. Eine groe Ausnahme bilden jedoch die Thurn und Taxis Studien, die seit 1963 in gewissen Abstnden erscheinen und immer wieder von neuen Erkenntnissen zur Kirche und zum Kloster berichten. Sehr hervorzuheben wre Max Piendl, der das verstreute schriftliche Quellenmaterial zusammenstellte und kommentierte. Durch ihn erstrahlte die Geschichte der Kirchen in einem neuen Licht. [...]
