Da das Spielen eine natrliche Form des Lernens darstellt, sollte es auch im Unterricht der Grundschule bercksichtigt werden. Die groe Bedeutung des Spiels fr die Menschen zeigt sich u.a. an der langen Geschichte des Spiels, welche in dieser Arbeit behandelt wird. Unzhlige Menschen haben versucht herauszufinden, warum die Menschen so gerne spielen und was die Anziehungskraft des Spiels ausmacht. Es werden beispielhaft einige Erklrungsversuche herausgegriffen. Auch Definitionsversuche des Begriffes 'Spiel' haben eine lange Geschichte. Aufgrund der Schwierigkeit einer umfassenden Definition, nenne ich die Wesensmerkmale des Spiels nach Heckhausen (1963) und beschreibe diese im Anschluss in Beziehung zu Zielen und Mglichkeiten des Fremdsprachenunterrichtes. Es stellt sich die Frage, warum das Spiel als Unterrichtsmethode bei der Vermittlung einer Fremdsprache genutzt werden sollte. Spielen wird oft im Gegensatz zum Begriff Lernen gesehen oder von Lehrern als Mglichkeit der Belohnung nach einer anstrengenden Phase des Lernens und Arbeitens betrachtet. Das Spiel hat jedoch eine Berechtigung als eigenstndige Unterrichtsmethode der Fremdsprachenvermittlung. Es lassen sich zahlreiche Grnde fr den Einsatz von Spielen im Fremdsprachenunterricht der Grundschule finden, von denen ich einige aufgreife. Die Einteilung von Spielen in bestimmte Kategorien ist recht problematisch, da sich zunchst einmal die Frage stellt, welche Kategorien ausgewhlt werden sollten und weil die Spiele meist mehreren Kategorien zugeordnet werden knnen
